Volunteers need a valid Palatine Public Library District card and must commit to volunteering a minimum of 15 hours. We are unable to accommodate court-ordered or court-supervised community service.  

Opportunities for Adults

Member Services Volunteer

Location:  Main Library

Date/time:  Sunday between 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. (2 hours)

Duration:  Ongoing or Short Term

Assist the Member Services Department by shelving holds, casing cd's or dvd's, and assisting staff with other tasks as necessary.  Volunteer must commit to volunteering two hours each week.  This opportunity requires reaching, bending, squatting, and kneeling to complete tasks.  Four opportunities available.  Volunteer must pass a short alphabetical quiz in order to be placed as a Member Services volunteer.  Short term volunteers may apply for these opportunities. 


Library Greeter

Location: Main Library

Date/time: Monday-Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday & Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Duration:  Ongoing or Short Term

Greet library visitors at the front door and count number of visitors entering/exiting the building with a tally counter.  Volunteer must commit to volunteering each week.  This opportunity requires standing at a podium for one to two hours.   Several opportunities available.  Short term volunteers may apply for these opportunities. 

Opportunities for Teens

Teen Advisory Board (TAB) - for grades 8th-12th

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meets monthly during the school year and members assist at various programs throughout the year.  Applicants must be in grades 8-12 to become a member.  Applications are available August 1-15. 

Tween Advisory Group (TAG) - for grades 5th-7th

The Tween Advisory Group (TAG) meets monthly during the school year on Saturdays between 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Enjoy a fun activity and give input for library services, displays, programs, and collections.  Each month features a different activity.  Sign-up two weeks before the date on the library events calendar or click the link below.   No application required.
