Extended Access is a self-service that allows members to visit both Branches before and after hours without staff present.
Participants must enroll for Extended Access and sign a user agreement. Visit any Library location to fill out an application and get more information.
During Extended Access, you can:
- Browse the collection
- Use Self-Checkout stations
- Use the computers
- Print and scan documents
- Pick up your holds
This service is available to District cardholders 16 years or older in good standing. Also available for neighboring library cardholders with reciprocal borrowing privileges.

How do I sign up?
Stop by the desk at any Library location with your Library card and photo ID. This service is available to District cardholders 16 years or older in good standing. Also available for neighboring library cardholders with reciprocal borrowing privileges.
How long does permission to use this service last?
When your Library card expires, so does your registration for Extended Access. Renew your Library card at the Desk. You can choose not to renew this service at any time and revert to a regular library account.

Can I bring my kids? Can I bring a friend?
Members under 16 years and older must be accompanied by an adult. Members older than 16 must be registered with the Library to visit the Branches during Extended Access. Only minors with an enrolled parent or guardian are admitted.
What if I need help during unstaffed hours?
Call the Main Library at 847-907-3600 for assistance, using your personal phone. In the event of an emergency call 9-1-1.
What about security?
Members must sign an Extended Access agreement and abide by all Library policies. Violators risk losing their privileges. Security cameras monitor the building throughout the day.
