Library and Account FAQs During Closing

Since the new limits and restrictions due to Covid-19, we have answered questions on these topics and more. Need to know something not answered here? We are available daily to call at 847-907-3600, online chat, or email from Mon-Thurs, 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.; Fri-Sat, 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. We can answer questions about your library account and any reference questions you may have. We are here to help!

My account is blocked. What can I do? Contact us during open hours and we will work with you.

What's happening with my holds? District cardholders can make holds requests through My Account. Holds are available for 7 days once you've been notified that your items are ready. 

How do I pick up my holds? Come to the library during our open hours and pick up your holds or schedule a Curbside Pickup appointment. Holds Pickup area is located in the Main Library lobby, in the Meeting Room hallway. Visit palatinelibrary.org/curbside for instructions and the link to the calendar to reserve your spot. 

Where do I return my materials now? You can return materials to any library location. The parking garage Drive-up Drop is open during open hours. The Walkup Drop in front of the building is always open.

Can I make an interlibrary loan request? Visit palatinelibrary.org/interlibrary-loan to make a request

Is the library making Homebound Deliveries? Yes, we are providing this service. If you are unable to visit the Library for a minimum of 30 days, due to a temporary or permanent disabling condition, please visit palatinelibrary.org/homebound-delivery and fill out the form.

Can I access all the online learning resources? Yes, and there’s so much there waiting for you! Some of our more popular tools are: Creativebug, Consumer Reports, Lynda.com, Mango Languages, and more. Visit palatinelibrary.org/databases for a full list. Ancestry.com is not accessible remotely.

I don’t know my password. Can you help? Yes, we can help reset your PIN. Email us at palatine@palatinelibrary.org or call 847-907-3600 for assistance. We also have a video showing how to change passwords manually.

Can I make new meeting room reservations? No, currently, we are not allowing meeting room use, and will make an announcement when reservations become available.

How is the Library cleaning materials once they have been returned? Returned materials are quarantined for several days. Using disinfectants is not good for library materials. Returned materials may take several days to be removed from your account. Remember – we are fine free!
